lol, not only are they lazy but they are misinformed. 90% of wii games involve little to no motion. Of all the games i have, only wiisports requires any form of excercise. Not at all...Nintendo has been coming out with messed up games ever since the nintendo gamecube. The graphics aren't that good and I don't think the system is worth playing. Some people just don't like motion controls because it takes away from the feel of the game. I prefer to have the controller in my hand than using motion. No, not at all. Video games and exercise are separate things. Besides, to me, the whole point of video games is to sit down and forget about your troubles. It is just more relaxing to sit rather than to exercise. Also, most of the games I want are on the PS3 or Xbox 360. I'm more of a horror, violent, bloody, guns, and swords type of gamer. To me most of the games on the wii are about movement...not about killing things.

i absolutely love my wii, and at this moment in time its getting a lot more play time than my ps3 or 360 (360 is dead though so thats a given). the wii is a great console and full of some amazing exclusives.

I have a question about Mortal Kombat vs DC and how the controls are?
Okay so I was seeing a lot of youtube videos of MK vs DC and I hear a lot of hardcore MK fans not really liking it but I also hear a lot of fighting fans praising it, but I for one think it looks like a solid fighting game, only thing is that I don't know how it plays!
can someone tell me how the control scheme is and if it's easy free flowing or weird and stubborn?
and can you also compare the controls to other games i've played?
for example I have Tekken 5, Dead or Alive 4, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Soul Calibur, Street Fighter EX Plus, and HAVE PLAYED Mortal Kombat Armageddon

It's an OK game , i wouldn't say it's the best Mortal Kombat game iv'e played , the original on the PS1 i think will be everyone's favourite.

I think they could have made this game alot better if they had put a wider range of characters in , for Mortal Kombat for example they should have put Rain , Reptile , Ermac in , and as for DC they should have put Venom in , would have made it that little bit better.

DC Motor Speed Controlling?
i have a DC motor that i need to control it's speed, the motor is for an R/C car am using for my project
the motor operates at 6V so i supplied it with a 6V battery, and it turned and everything went great
i thought that i can decrease the speed by adding a resistance before the 6V input to the DC motor
so i added into the circuit a 500k ohm resistance (since the 10K didnt have almost any effect on the output voltage), this 500k gave a 3V output so i thought that the motor will run half speed as it used to be
but when i connected the DC motor to the circuit it didnt work!!
so i connected the DC before the 500k (at the 6V) and it ran fine, but when i reconnected it back after the 500k it just stopped!!
does any1 have any idea what might be the problem?!
or do u have any idea about how to control this DC motor speed?
i want to connect it to a PIC16F877A and use it to control the flow of the voltages supplied to the DC to control its speed...that was my idea, but if the DC wont be able to run at lower voltage than 6V then i guess am having a big problem

The problem is your resistance is way too big. (Let me guess, you are using a mechanical voltmeter and you measured 3V with just the battery and resistor connected to the voltmeter.) Ohm's Law says 6V into 500K惟 gives only 12碌A of current, so it's not surprising your motor didn't run like that! A few tens of ohms of resistance should be plenty to reduce the speed. You need to measure the voltage at the motor while it's actually in circuit with the resistor.
If you're using a microcontroller, though, consider pulse width modulation. This works by supplying the motor with 6V for awhile, then turning off the supply; and repeating the whole thing over and over again, with a cycle time of a few tens or hundreds of microseconds. The proportion of time spent ';on'; determines the speed; but since the full 6V is applied to the motor, the full starting torque is available.
This is easily achieved with a loop and a two 1-byte registers. One register is used as a counter and gets incremented each time you go around the loop. Turn the motor output OFF when the counter reaches a threshhold value stored in another register (which you can change to set the speed) and ON when it overflows from 255 to 0 (you can test for this happening because it will set the ';carry'; flag in the status register). The bigger the number in the threshhold register, the longer it will take for the counter to reach that value and so the longer the output will remain ';on';.
Note that many modern microcontrollers have the ability to do pulse width modulation in hardware; when enabled, you just write a number to a register and you get an automatic PWM output on one of the I/O lines, the bigger the number the longer the ';on'; time.DC Motor Speed Controlling?

If you use a multimeter to measure the current, use a 2A range or higher, otherwise the multimeter will add so much resistance that it confuses the measurement.
If there is 150mA flowing for example, the motor would be the equivalent of a 40 ohm resistor. However this is a fairly useless way of controlling permanent magnet motors, as the energy lost in the resistor is wasted, and the load on the motor varies so the voltage varies etc. The potentiometer has to have a sufficient current and power rating to suit the job. A suitable one is hard to find, and It is better to use other ways. Cheaper too. Just takes more knowledge and effort perhaps.
You can vary the speed with less loss using Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), especially suited to a microcontroller. Some have a PWM device built in, others you can do it with software. Simply, the motor is switched on and off rapidly. If it is on for half the time, then half the speed, and so on. A few hundred Hertz is usually fast enough. A diode needs to be connected across the motor in reverse to protect the transistor used to switch the motor on and off. For a uContoller I/O connection, better to use a small power FET, or a CMOS gate as a driver for a transistor. Look up PIC and PWM, I am sure you will find the method that suits yuour particular desires. You could use a small 8 pin PIC if that is all it has to do. If you wish to control teh speed externally, you would probably use push buttons (up/ down/ stop).
There is another way, use remote control radio equipment. There are motor speed controlls that connect to the receiver. This method uses off the shelf plug in modules, but you have to buy a transmitter and receiver and speed control that all go together. Maybe an el cheapo toy Radio Controlled model car is the way to get this setup, including a motor etc.
You can also use a 555 timer for PWM with a knob to control it. This would be a very good project for experience, and the link below shows how to do it, from the basics almost. It is what you wanted to do, but works better.

Computer controlling a DC motor...?
Hi,
I've heard this is possible and now I'd like to do it. I've been told that I can build, on a breadboard, a controller device that would let my computer control a motor connected to a battery (and tell it to run forwards, backwards, and at a variable speed). Does anyone know how to do this specifically (we can talk about it through E-mails or IM) or a site that has instructions for how to do this? If my computer could ';talk'; to the board through my USB or Modem, that would be great. As for programming, I'd like to use JAVA or C, if that makes any difference.

I will be moving to DC from San Francisco (where rent control is mandatory for all renters) and I want to know what it is like in DC. Are all apartments rent controlled, most, some, none? If not, how is the price increase handled, and what percentage is the increase generally? Can landlords only raise it once a year? I would like to control several 110v-120v AC halogen work lights (20 amps max) using a 12v DC switch. I'm thinking a relay would work perfectly for this scenario. However, I'm not familiar with any relays that use 12v DC on the low current side and 110v AC on the high current side. Let's face it, doctors make good paychecks. I do not doubt that they got into medicine because they care about people, but the lifestyle is pretty ';up there';. I see Porches, nice homes, vacation condos, trips abroad, pleasant offices in nice places, privileges and lots of perks.
So, if the government assigns a pay scale and has some wage czar determining what a doctor makes, will as many people want to become doctors? There are long hours, malpractice suits, paperwork, etc. and then holidays and weekends to work and then there is always being on call and the people who call for each and every tiny little thing. Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. might be spent diagnosing strep throats and ear infections, but if the pay is fantastic, you put up with it, right?

What is the best way to control the speed of a 12v, 1.2 amp dc motor?
The motor is out of a variable speed cordless drill but the motor does not turn as slow as I'd like with the built-in speed control trigger. I tried using a standard radioshack potentiometer but burned it up. I'm assuming the problem is the high amps and run of the mill potentiometers can't handle it. I thought about dimmer switches but I understand that's not a viable solution either. Any thoughts? Well, you will not be able to directly power the motor from the mindstorm. while it is possible to get 110AC from it, by stepping the 9v to 12v and then using a power inverter to go the rest of the way. The problem with that however, is that there just aren't enough amps there to power the furnace motor. Instead, you will want the mindstorm system to tell a device to increase the power given to the motor. If the mindstorm system can give power on/off, then you could just use a solenoid switch. The 9vdc would power an electromagnet that would pull a switch into the closed position. you can pick up a solenoid switch at any Radio shack. They are less than $10. Just make sure you are buying one that is rated properly. In this case, you would be able to simply turn the motor on and off. Mind you that with this setup, the mindstorm would only power the electromagnet in the solenoid. The switch side of the solenoid would have to be plugged into the wall, and the motor would either run at full power, or no power.
Now, I am not familiar with what the mindstorm system is capable of. If it can give variable amounts of power to a small Lego motor, then we are getting somewhere. The problem is, I don't know enough about electricity to tell you how to make a controller to react to it. Some motors will not vary their speed if you vary the input voltage. They will either run or they won't. If the voltage is too low, they will hum, vibrate and make lots of heat.
Other kinds of motors can vary their speed in proportion with the voltage input. But it's not possible to tell if you have the right kind of motor without a knowledgeable person looking at it. Chances are, the kind of motor a furnace uses does not have variable speed.
If it is, the device you need to make it work is called a ';Variac.'; (AKA: variable autotransformer.) It is a special kind of transformer designed to vary the voltage while keeping current relatively steady.
A Variac will cost you anywhere from $50 on up to hundreds of dollars.
These are not things you can buy at ';Radio Shack.'; You will have to find an electrical supply company.
It won't work without a power inverter. You need to not only step up the voltage, but convert it to AC. A 110 volt motor won't run on DC voltage. Then, you will have the problem of output power (wattage) of the 9 volt supply. Will it be strong enough to power an inverter?

It won't work without a power inverter. You need to not only step up the voltage, but convert it to AC. A 110 volt motor won't run on DC voltage. Then, you will have the problem of output power (wattage) of the 9 volt supply. Will it be strong enough to power an inverter?

A cheap, easy to program, relay or plc that can control at least 8: 12-24 volt DC motors. Ideas?
Programing will be done through visual basic and easy programing of the device would be nice. I want the program to run different motors for a certain time period when a user clicks a button on the computer program. So say a button click will run motor 1 for 5 secs and motor 2 for 10 secs. The motors will take DC voltage between 12 and 24 V. I have a 12V, 50W DC motor. It's geared down to 60 rpm from 3000 rpm. However, I want to be able to control the rpm from 0 to 60 without turning off the motor. I need a potentiometer that can do this, and at the same time work as an on/off switch. Preferably something with pre-made circuitry (I can build the outer shell and connect the cables myself). I've been having trouble finding such a solution, most standard dimmers work for AC. The police cannot arbitralily reject a carry permit application. The only time anyone is registered and finger printed is for a carry conceal license. The only places you cant carry without the permit are gov. buildings schools and church. Class 3 weapons are legal (fully automatic, and/or silenced) so are cut down shotguns. So in Indiana you can legally carry a fully automatic suppressed 9mm Uzi, and a sawed off shotgun as long as it is concealed, and you have a class 3 permit and a carry permit.
Frivilous law suits against gun manufacturers is also illegal, we now have passed the ';Castle Doctrine'; stating you dont have to run away from a criminal before shooting in self defense.
These are the reasons I believe are responsible for the low murder rate in Indy.

Also assuming the AC supply is supplying an AC wave form of 卤10 volts peak or 20 volts P-P.
When you add in the 5 volt battery, the voltages will add and you will have an AC waveform offset by 5 volts, that is, swinging between 鈥? volts and + 15 volts. Or, between 鈥?5 volts and + 5 volts, depending on the polarity of the battery and your reference. This same voltage will appear across the resistor load.

You can put an AC power supply in series with a battery with a ';shunt';, as you call it, consisting of a resistor and a transformer. I'm guessing the transformer has the proper hysteresis that is compatible with a battery. This might also be called a dampening circuit or a modulating circuit if your looking for something in an electronics search. The resistor should be 220k ohms which is about the same as the secondary on a power transformer or 110 input and 3 to 12 output type transformer. I use this for charging batteries, if I don't have a proper charger with the blinking leds, by putting a battery on the primary of the transformer used in the ';shunt'; part. Hope that helps.

You can put an AC power supply in series with a battery with a ';shunt';, as you call it, consisting of a resistor and a transformer. I'm guessing the transformer has the proper hysteresis that is compatible with a battery. This might also be called a dampening circuit or a modulating circuit if your looking for something in an electronics search. The resistor should be 220k ohms which is about the same as the secondary on a power transformer or 110 input and 3 to 12 output type transformer. I use this for charging batteries, if I don't have a proper charger with the blinking leds, by putting a battery on the primary of the transformer used in the ';shunt'; part. Hope that helps.

Gun ';control'; does not work in DC or anywhere else? You have an individual right to own and use a firearms to protect yourself. You have a moral obligation as parents to teach your children how to properly use fireams for their protections.
gun control isn't controlling anything.all this does is make law abiding citizens jump thru hoops to get a permit.while joe crack head buys one from harry heroine on the street corner.

oh dont get me wrong,you listen to every person who carries a penile extension (gun) and they will tell you that if guns are banned so should cigarettes and alcohol(although I've yet to see on the news a man carrying a bottle of Jack Daniels Killed 25 people in a school auditorium).
Then theres the ';If a man wants to kill you and doesnt have a gun he will use a knife or a baseball bat(Again...how many massacres have been carried out by a mad man with a baseball bat or a knife,sure he may kill 1-3 people before he gets tackled or the rest of the people run away(cant run away from a bullet though,can you)
Then theres my favorite, if EVERYONE had guns then those who try to kill others will themselves be killed.....interresting,kinda like the wild west,thing is how many people can handle or use a gun properly and how many more innocent people could be killed by wayward bullets being fired by a novice with a hand gun?

DC gun control laws don't work because DC does not have borders, guns can be obtained easily enough from other states. But then it probably won't exist in a months time anyway, a case is going before the supreme court.
It's not. The truth is that a crook will always be able to get a gun. They just don't want the honest people to have them. Just look at the war on drugs. It isn't working, they can't stop that. So what makes anyone think they would be able to stop people from getting guns? It just stupid. We never used to have all of the shootings like we do today. I think it because of the TV, and all these pills people are taking for anything and everything.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear reasons on loosening the oppressive restrictions on DC gun ownership.
Gun control keeps guns out of the hands of the good guys. The bad guys will have guns no matter what.

It's not going to work well as long as areas just outside DC are stil selling guns. We either need to ban guns nation wide or give up on having any kind of ban.trilogy

Gun control is so frustrating... First of all, when people turn in their guns, it's only law abiding citizens who will follow the rules. Criminals, the very people who need the guns taken away, are the ones who end up with the guns. Criminals know that the average person will be unable to fight back if a gun is turned on them.
